Players are excited to begin high school flag football era
SANTA BARBAA, Calif. - Many girls have been waiting to play flag football in high school for quite awhile like Oxnard senior Azalea Kubic.
"I have wanted to play since I was a kid," said Kubic. "My dad and uncle played in college so I have really been into football. I played tackle when I was younger but I didn't like all the pads so when I was in middle school I played flag for the first time and I enjoyed it."
For the first time ever girls flag football will be a CIF sport with the season starting August 18 and running through October 28.
Oxnard and Rio Mesa had a recent practice with each other and it was evident that there is plenty of talent on both sides as there were several big scoring plays while the camera was rolling.
"I have always enjoyed watching the boys play," began Rio Mesa senior Tanaya Moreno. "So i wanted to see if I could do it too."
Teams can play up to 28 games this season.
