Stunner at the buzzer: Bishop Diego boys basketball heartbroken in CIF title game

Bishop loses on buzzer beater

ONTARIO, Calif. - A late rally with a championship on the line turned to agony for Bishop Diego boys basketball.

Arrowhead Christian’s David Howerzyl tipped in his own miss at the final buzzer to sink the Cardinals 62-60 in Saturday’s CIF-SS Div. 5AA championship game.

Just moments earlier, Bishop’s Matthew Cunningham hit a clutch three-pointer to tie the game at 60.

Kai Morphy led the Cardinals with 17 points. Tyler Williams had 15 and Cunningham added 11.

Bishop Diego will now await its CIF State playoff opponent, to be announced on Sunday.
