RV campers beat the heat along the coast
VENTURA COUNTY, Calif.-RVs appear to be parked as far as the eye can see along the Old Coast Highway in Ventura County.
Many of the the people parked for the day or overnight would like the sun to come out at the beach, but they are not complaining about the marine layer that has been hugging the coast.
They know when that happens it is usually extra hot inland.
"Yeah, we escaped the 1200 degrees [in] Santa Clarita to come out here to the beautiful beach, " said Mackenzie Arnold, " Nice forecast. Nice and cool."
Of course, Arnold, who lives in Santa Clarita, is exaggerating, but most of the people we spoke to are escaping one hundred plus temperatures.
Another couple from Sacramento brought three dogs.
Tracy Howard said they feel lucky to have a spot along the Rincon Parkway between Faria Beach Park and Hobson Park, just south of Carpinteria.
"We check periodically to see if there is a spot open and there was and it was a heat wave in Sacramento, "said Howard, " So, we just said 'yes we are coming,' we got two nights."
Mark Pierson is a regular at Hobson Park where he said his wife likes to hook up his RV to electricity.
There are also bathrooms, showers and a snack bar called the Hobson Grill and Pizza.
Pierson usually order a Calzone, but said it is closed on Tuesdays.
"It is a beautiful spot down here it is about 70 degrees and it is about 100 inland where we live," said Pierson.
They also brought their dogs Jack and Piper who like to play in the water and on the beach.
Pierson also brought a book, he recommends, entitled "12 Rules of Life" by Jordan B. Peterson.
Fire Station 25 is less than a mile away if anyone is need of help.
Firefighters and paramedics checked on a RV camper this afternoon who appeared to have injured his foot.
