Heavy rain leads to road closures and concerns in Montecito and La Conchita
MONTECITO, Calif.-RIsing flood waters made nearly submerged flood signs along N. Jameson Lane in Montecito on the fifth anniversary of the deadly Montecito Mudslide.
Santa Ysidro Creek spilled onto the roadway and the 101 Freeway in the afternoon causing closures while people were trying to get home and evacuate.
George Quirin came outside to look.
"This is where San Ysidro Creek breached during the Thomas debris flow," said Quirin.
It was the first day on the job for Eric Stevens who was driving a tow truck but couldn't get to all of his customers due to the closure.
He is trained to charge batteries and had plenty of calls.
Romero Creed, near the Sheffield exit, where people were taken off the 101 freeway, was raging like a river but did not cover the roadway.
Newly installed grates along the widened 101 in Carpinteria seemed to keep water from pooling on the new stretch.
About ten miles south first responders were keeping a close eye on La Conchita.
Tuesday marks the anniversary of the deadly La Conchita Landslide in 2005.
Ventura County Public Information Officer Andy VanSciver said they were monitoring it.
"Apparently we have a geologist out on scene now," said VanSciver.
They hope people will heed warnings and play it safe.
They don't want history to repeat itself along the coast.
