Channel Island High School student receives a full-ride to UCLA.

CHANNEL ISLANDS, Calif. -- Channel Islands High schooler Pedro Calderon earned a full ride to UC Los Angeles this semester.

The local high school student is one of this year's Edison Scholars. He was one out of 30 students in the nation to be recognized for the 40k Scholarship.

Calderon is a first generation college student. His father is a farm worker and his mother works in a factory, according to Channel Islands High School.

Calderon also won the Coca Cola, Renaissance and Dell Scholarship.

Calderon's high school counselor says he is a kind and humble student whose hard work paid off.

Calderon will be attending in the fall to pursue his degree in engineering.
