VENTURA, Calif. -- Community Memorial Hospital will resume its medically-necessary elective and non-emergent surgical procedures starting May 11.

The hospital was forced to suspend those procedures due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March.

Community Memorial Health System will follow guidance from the CDC, US Surgeon General, American College of Surgeons, the State of California and the California Hospital Association in establishing safety measures and protocols before resuming non-emergency surgeries.

The Community Memorial Health System President and CEO gave the following statement about the reopening of the procedures:

“After thoughtful evaluation of the data and careful implementation of the policies and procedures outlined by the CDC and state and local public health leaders, we have decided to resume scheduled, non-emergent surgical procedures at Community Memorial hospital in Ventura. As with most hospitals in the state of California, we suspended elective procedures to prepare for the potential surge of COVID-19 patients, but feel that it’s important to the overall health and wellbeing of our community to begin offering these services again at this time.”

Gary Wilde, Community Memorial Health System President and CEO
