OXNARD, Calif. - The drum major for the Oxnard High School marching band is heading to Rome to perform in a holiday parade.

Sebastian Gutierrez said he leaves for Rome on the day after Christmas.

The 16-year-old trumpet player was chosen at a band camp for being the most improved.

Band director Andre Spence said Sebastian will represent the United States, Ventura County and Oxnard in his school uniform.

"Something exciting about this Rome parade is I'm going to be participating with an abundance of very talented students in a New Year's Rome parade.

Gutierrez said he credits his family, friends and band boosters for supporting him.
