Heart problem likely cause of death for Ventura High School senior

VENTURA, Calif. - A Ventura High School senior who died unexpectedly last Friday likely died from a heart condition, according to the Ventura Unified School District (VUSD).

17-year-old Antonio Calderon collapsed Friday while on a class field trip to the Ventura Botanical Garden. The student died later at a local hospital.

The family confirmed to VUSD that Calderon had a heart problem and was on a waiting list for a new heart. The family has set up a gofundme account to help raise money to pay for Antonio's funeral expenses.

A public viewing is set for Sunday, November 24 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary service following at 7:00 p.m. at Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home at 757 E. Main Street in Ventura.

A funeral mass will be held the following day on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the San Buenaventura Mission at 211 E Main Street.
