Planes Of Fame AirFest Takes Flight This Weekend In The Santa Maria Valley

SANTA MARIA, Calif. (KEYT) - History is set to take flight this weekend in the Santa Maria Valley during the annual Planes of Fame Airfest.

The two-day event will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Santa Maria Airport, featuring dozens of historic and modern aircraft on display both on the ground and in the sky.

"AirFest is an opportunity to be completely immersed in aviation for a weekend," said Lindy Linebaugh, AirFest marketing coordinator. "We have everything. Of course, we have lots of flying, but we have STEM exhibits. We have community partners. We even have vintage military vehicles on display this weekend. It is a chance to come out, bring the family, enjoy some great fun, and watch these incredible historic airplanes take flight."

The aircraft represent the evolution of aviation, ranging from planes from the early days of flight to state-of-the-art modern aircraft.

"Something special about this show is we truly have something for everyone," said Linebaugh. "This year, we have over 25 historic aircraft out on the ramp, everything from the early age of aviation, so biplanes all the way to the jet age. We have an F-86. We have T-33s. There is something for everyone. I've been around to many airshows around the country and there is not a collection like this anywhere."

Many of the planes will take to the skies during the weekend, with several performing flight demonstrations and aerobatic maneuvers.

The air show will provide spectators a chance to see some of America's most historic and famous aircraft in action while learning more about the history of aviation.

"It is very special to see all of these aircraft take flight," said Linebaugh. "It's a very unique thing that Planes of Fame AirFest has to offer the community. A lot of the aircraft will be on static display. That means that people will be able to come check them out up close and personal, and then they will also be able to watch them fly during the air show later on in the day, so we have the best of both worlds with most of our aircraft. Of course, we have our incredible lineup of performers that you can find on our website at CentralCoastAirFest.com, but everything, almost everything will be taking flight at some point this weekend."

The Planes of Fame Airfest runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

Tickets are available for the event, and children 11 and under are admitted free.
