Deputies detained man for arson of his own residence in Orcutt Monday

ORCUTT, Calif. – Deputies detained a man who set his own home on fire on Genoa Way in Orcutt Monday.

On Jun. 3, 2024, deputies responded to the 1400 block of Genoa Way for a reported man breaking the windows of a residence detailed the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office in a press release about the incident.

Arriving deputies noticed smoke coming from a home and learned that the resident of the home, a 52-year-old man, had intentionally set the house on fire explained the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office.

According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, the flames were successfully knocked down at 11:46 p.m. with no injuries reported from the scene.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office asked the public to avoid the area of Genoa and Harmony shown below as part of the response and those roads are now reopened.

The 52-year-old was arrested for arson and vandalism and will be booked at the Northern Branch Jail with exact booking charges and bail to be determined later shared the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office.

According to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office, there were no reported injuries at the scene and only the 52-year-old's home was damaged by the fire.
