Four people hospitalized and one arrested after multi-vehicle collision Tuesday evening on Highway 1 north of Vandenberg SFB
VANDENBERG SPACE FORCE BASE, Calif. – Four people were treated for major or moderate injuries and one was later placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence following a multi-vehicle collision Tuesday evening on Highway 1 just south of San Antonio Road West.
On Apr. 16, around 5:56 p.m., A 21-year-old Lompoc resident was driving his 2016 Ford Fiesta northbound on Highway 1 south of San Antonio Road West at an undetermined speed state California Highway Patrol-Buellton Area (CHP).
At the same time, a 20-year-old Lompoc resident was driving southbound on Highway 1 in her 2009 Chevrolet Silverado around 50 to 60 miles per hour when the driver of the Fiesta allowed his vehicle to drift into oncoming southbound traffic detail CHP.
According to CHP, the two vehicles collided and two other vehicles behind the crash that were also traveling southbound, a 2022 Toyota Highlander and a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado, were unable to avoid the vehicles and crashed causing the multi-vehicle incident.
The drivers of all four vehicles sustained injuries during the incident and all were transported to Marian Regional Medical Center including the initial northbound driver who was airlifted for their injuries before being placed under arrest explain CHP.
