A Lompoc man has died and three others injured after crash on Highway 1 near Santa Lucia Canyon Road Wednesday morning

VANDENBERG VILLAGE, Calif. – One person has died and two others injured following a two-vehicle collision on Highway 1 near Santa Lucia Canyon Road Wednesday morning.

California Highway Patrol-Buellton Area (CHP) issued a press release about the collision Wednesday afternoon where they identified the deceased as 85-year-old Lompoc resident Larry Vanderhoofven.

Around 8:37 a.m. on Feb. 21, a white Chevrolet Cruze was traveling eastbound from Santa Lucia Canyon Road and making a left onto Highway 1 northbound when it collided with a red Pontiac Grand Prix southbound on Highway 1 state CHP.

The 84-year-old female passenger of the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze was transported with major injuries to Marian Regional Hospital detail CHP.

According to CHP, the 33-year-old driver of the Pontiac and the 21-year-old passenger, both from Santa Maria, were also medically transported to Marian Regional Medical Center but with minor injuries.

Although drugs nor alcohol are currently considered a factor in this incident explain CHP, the investigation continues into the cause of the collision.
