Santa Maria announces Fourth of July preparations available for residents
SANTA MARIA, Calif. – The City of Santa Maria is getting ready for upcoming July 4th celebrations by announcing the use of an aircraft to monitor illegal fireworks as well as yard signs for noise-sensitive residents.
The City of Santa Maria's Fire Department will use a high-altitude aircraft with video and GPS technology to pinpoint launches of illegal fireworks this year.
Property owners/occupants of identified addresses could receive a $1,000 fine for illegal fireworks use or fireworks launched outside of the approved "Safe and Sane" fireworks window inside of the city limits between 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on the Fourth of July.

The City of Santa Maria is also offering free yard signs in English and Spanish for noise-sensitive Santa Maria residents ahead of Fourth of July celebrations.
The signs, featured above, can be picked up by appointment at City Hall at 110 East Cook Street, Mondays through Thursdays. To make an appointment, call the City Public Information Manager at 805-925-0951 extension 2372.
County Animal Services will have pet crates available for loan at their 548 West Foster Road location. Pickup days are between Friday, Jun. 30, and Jul. 5, when returns are requested. If your pet goes missing during the festivities, be sure to visit the Animal Services Shelter or call 805-934-6119.
