Santa Barbara Sheriff’s identify 33-year-old Santa Maria resident in Northern Branch Jail death

SANTA MARIA, Calif.– The Santa Barbara Sheriff's Office identified 33-year-old Jamie Angel Gonzalez as the deceased in Wednesday's Northern Branch Jail death.

The Santa Maria adult died while in the custody of jail staff upon a parole violation arrest. Santa Barbara Sheriff deputies are conducting an investigation into the fatality to determine the cause and specific details of Gonzalez's last moments alive.

Sheriff's have confirmed the individual was escorted into an observation cell upon arrival to the jail where they were later found unresponsive. Jail custody deputies administered Narcan and attempted reverse overdose measures before the person was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead, according to the SB Sheriff's report.
