Cuesta College adds student-based solution program for spring semester

Cuesta College

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Cuesta College joins 19 other California community colleges launching the Invention and Inclusive Innovation (i3) initiative, a solution building student centered learning program.

Cuesta College's i3 program will be a 12 week interdisciplinary workshop for up to 25 students.

“We will lead students through a process of identifying and interviewing stakeholders to define their problems and prototype possible solutions,” Business faculty member Neil Higgins said. “The program culminates with a presentation of student-developed solutions.”

This emphasis on student problem-solving experiences is expected to help long after the completion of their coursework.

“Today’s employers seek highly motivated, self-directed and action-oriented employees who create value by looking to solve problems and who are open to learning and critical guidance – simply put those with entrepreneurial mindsets,” said Sandra Sanchez, Interim Vice Chancellor, Workforce and Economic Development.

Interested Cuesta College students can find the i3 pilot program during the Spring 2023 semester under the name, "Cuesta College Curiosity League" and any students that complete the workshop will receive a $500 award funded by CoastHills Credit Union.
