Santa Barbara County Planning Commission gives the final approval for new Orcutt senior housing project

ORCUTT, Calif. -- The Santa Barbara County Planning Commission gave the final approval for the new Orcutt senior housing project at Wednesday night's meeting.

The senior complex will have assisted living, independent living, memory care, employment housing, and a child care service center.

The project location is next to the Oasis Senior Center and the land is owned by the Orcutt Union School District.

Superintendent Holly Edds said there is a need in Orcutt for senior housing as well as the expected revenue this complex will bring.

City staff said this project has been in process since 2021 but the senior housing need in Orcutt has been in conversation since the 90s.

Santa Barbara County Planner Shannon Reese said construction will begin in phases and breaking ground is phase 1.

The first phase has a possibility to begin in 2023 depending on the application process.
