LOS ALAMOS, Calif. – The Santa Barbara County Fire Department was able to quickly stop forward progress of a small roadside grass fire along Highway 101 south of Los Alamos on Monday afternoon, according to the fire department.

The fire was reported just before 1:45 p.m. on Monday near the southbound Highway 101 Los Alamos off-ramp, according to incident response pages.

The fire grew to roughly one-quarter of an acre before crews were able to stop the forward progression, said county fire spokesman Mike Eliason, adding that crews can handle the fire with the equipment that was available on the scene.

The California Highway Patrol played traffic restrictions in the area for firefighter safety, Eliason added.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
