Employee with Santa Maria Joint Union High School District tests positive for COVID-19

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Santa Maria Joint Union High School District announced Thursday that one of their employees tested positive for COVID-19.

The district said it is in contact with Santa Barbara County Public Health and is following all appropriate procedures related to the pandemic, including deep cleaning, disinfecting and contact tracing.

At this time, it is unclear if the employee had any direct contact with students.

Our newsroom has reached out to Public Health for additional information.

As of Thursday, Santa Barbara County has reported 35 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of active cases in the county to 228. 16 of those new cases were reported out of Santa Maria with the next highest being 4 new cases reported in the City of Lompoc.
