Santa Maria police continue to make arrests linked to protests

SANTA MARIA, Calif. -- Santa Maria police are continuing their identification and arrest of people involved in reckless driving following a Black Lives Matter protest on May 31.

Police arrested a driver of a tan truck that was cited for multiple violations.

Police say the driver will go through the court process for reckless driving.

Santa Maria police are continuing their search and arrest of people who they say are connected to illegal activity that happened following a protest on May 31.

The protest took place in the area of Cook Street and Broadway in Santa Maria.

Police say following the protest, crowds began to gather in the streets setting fires and tearing down the American flag. Police also say fireworks were shot and businesses were broken into at the Town Center Mall.

Officers were called onto the scene to break up the crowd.

The identities of those arrested have not yet been released by police. 

The investigation remains ongoing.
