Construction Underway on New Outdoor Classrooms for Carpinteria Kids

CARPINTERIA, Calif. (KEYT) - Construction is underway at the Carpinteria Children’s Project to transform traditional play yards into certified outdoor classrooms designed for learning through nature and play.

The project will turn existing outdoor spaces into interactive learning environments where young children can explore, create and build new skills outside the traditional classroom.

The redesigned areas will give children opportunities to learn through hands-on experiences while spending more time outdoors.

Learning stations and age-appropriate spaces will support activities tied to science, math, language, art and problem-solving. Children will also have opportunities for imaginative play, sensory exploration and activities they can experience together.

The goal is to make the outdoors an extension of the classroom rather than simply a place for recess.

Through nature-based activities, children will be able to observe their surroundings, ask questions and learn through movement and discovery.

The outdoor classrooms are also designed to support social, emotional and physical development. Activities will encourage children to communicate, work together and build confidence and independence while connecting directly with the natural environment.

The transformation comes as educators increasingly look for ways to incorporate outdoor experiences into early childhood learning.

Once construction is complete, the new spaces will provide Carpinteria children with another way to learn — taking lessons beyond classroom walls and into an environment built for exploration, creativity and discovery.
