Santa Barbara woman dies at Lake Nacimiento and her death remains under investigation

LAKE NACIMIENTO, Calif. – A Santa Barbara woman, 57-year-old Luz Maria Ruiz, died on Sunday, Jul. 9 at Lake Nacimiento and her death is currently under investigation.

Monterey County Park Rangers were called to a person that was unresponsive and receiving CPR from an off-duty EMT who happened to be boating on the lake.

Monterey County Park Rangers detail that Ruiz was transported to the Main Launch Ramp at the Nacimiento Resort where CPR was continued.

Despite the assistance of San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's deputies and San Luis Obispo County Fire personnel, Ruiz was declared dead on the scene relay Monterey County Park Rangers.

According to Monterey County Park Rangers, initial reports were that Ruiz was a passenger on a tube being towed by a personal watercraft when she fell off.

Monterey County Park Rangers are currently conducting an investigation into her death.

San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Department, which manages the San Luis Obispo County Coroner's Office, has not released a cause of death designation and indicate they are still awaiting the results of a full toxicology report.
