Fiesta Children’s Parade accepting applications to participate now through July 7

Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation Department

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The City of Santa Barbara's Parks and Recreation Department is now accepting applications for this year's Children's Fiesta Parade on Aug. 5 of this year.

The application window closes on Friday, Jul. 7 for the parade which is celebrating its 91st year on Saturday, Aug. 5 starting at 10 a.m.

Parents, guardians, and friends create and decorate their own floats, carts, and/or wagons for the foot parade. No motorized or battery-powered vehicles are used.

Children and their families typically dress in colorful Spanish or Mexican costumes.

Often, participants also bring chickens, goats, ponies, dogs, and other small animals to add to the parade.

Parade entries can be as small or as large as desired. Most importantly, there is room for every child in the parade and no cost to participate.

All children in the parade will receive a free ice cream for their community service thanks to MarBorg Industries.

The parade begins at 10 a.m. and makes its route along Cabrillo Boulevard from Garden Street to Calle Puerto Vallarta.
