Southbound Highway 101 traffic south of Gaviota Tunnel to be shifted starting Thursday

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. – Beginning on Thursday, Jun. 22, an emergency scour repair project adjacent to southbound Highway 101 will result in a traffic shift south of the Gaviota Tunnel.

Once a new temporary detour lane has been constructed, featured below during its construction, traffic will be shifted into the former median while the project is ongoing for the next six months detail Caltrans District 5.

This emergency project is to repair scour damage from heavy rains in January featured in the image for this article.

Electronic message boards are in place to advise drivers up the upcoming traffic shift.

The primary contractor for this $15 million project is CalPortland of Santa Maria.
