Beautify Goleta sets new collection record at early 2023 events

City of Goleta

GOLETA, Calif. – The first Beautify Goleta events of 2023 collected a record amount of trash between the self-guided cleanup and the Bulky Item Drop off events with more than 15,000 pounds removed.

The self-guided cleanup had 27 volunteers gather 672 pounds of trash, from cigarettes and straws to abandoned lobster traps and tires.

The Bulky Item Drop off on Jan. 28 at the rear parking lot of Goleta's city hall, received 14,967 pounds of items, breaking the previous record of 7,966 pounds.

These events kick-off a scheduled series of events on the following dates:

  • March 25, 2023 “Spring Into Action”
  • April 22, 2023 “Earth Day”
  • July 22, 2023 “Put A Smile On Your Place”
  • September 23, 2023 “Coastal Cleanup Day”

Ready to lead the charge? Goleta will rely on captain-led teams starting at the Mar. 25 event.

Captains can be individuals or clubs, businesses or community groups.

You won't need superpowers to be a captain, but you will need to email the city at EnvironmentalServices@CityOfGoleta.org about your interest.
