City of Santa Barbara expands homeless outreach services in downtown and waterfront areas

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif.– The city of Santa Barbara is expanding homeless services after hours in the downtown corridor and waterfront areas to assist unhoused individuals.

A homeless outreach team will provide evening and weekend hours services, while daytime services will continue to connect individuals with case management, housing navigation services, and necessary resources.

“I’m glad we are going where we are going today because the impacts don’t follow a normal workday, so I’m appreciative,” said City Councilman Mike Jordan.

Not only filling the gap of services with extended hours, expanded services include providing immediate support, intervention, de-escalation, and connections with homeless assistance programs, mainstream medical and mental/behavioral health and social services, and housing programs.
