23-year-old man arrested minutes after breaking into Isla Vista home and holding victim down

ISLA VISTA, Calif. – Deputies arrested a 23-year-old man on felony charges minutes after he broke into a victim's residence and held her down, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office said the man broke into the home on the 6500 block of Del Playa around 7:30 a.m. Friday, held the victim down, but fled after the victim screamed.

According to the investigation, the sheriff's office said the victim did not know the 23-year-old.

Deputies arrived after he fled, but the sheriff's office said they were able to quickly determine the suspect’s vehicle description and broadcast it to area units.

The sheriff's office said deputies stopped the 23-year-old about nine minutes later in his vehicle in the area of El Colegio Road and Camino Pescadero.

Deputies booked the man at the Main Jail without bail under the following, according to the sheriff's office: false imprisonment (felony), burglary (felony), possession of a dirk or dagger (felony), DUI (misdemeanor), and driving on a suspended license (misdemeanor) as well as a detainer for a violation of probation.
