Sheriff’s deputies pull person from Goleta apartment fire

GOLETA, Calif. – Santa Barbara County Sheriff's deputies rescued one person from a fire that broke out inside an apartment in Goleta Tuesday afternoon.

It happened around 4:50 p.m. at an apartment complex on the 100 block of Orange Avenue.

According to Santa Barbara County Fire Captain Daniel Bertucelli, one person was pulled from the fire before firefighters arrived on scene.

That person was taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office later identified the person's rescuers as two sheriff's deputies.

The two deputies were also taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. Both deputies are expected to recover, according to Santa Barbara County Sheriff's public information officer Raquel Zick.

Firefighters utilized an aggressive attack to knock down the fire and keep it from spreading to the adjacent units.

Photos shared by Bertucelli appeared to show a kitchen where the fire had burned appliances and the wall.

Crews remained on scene for several hours for mop up duty, Bertucelli said.
