SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - Outreach efforts for Census 2020 are really ramping up.

The U.S. Census Bureau needs census takers ahead of the big count.

Census questionnaires will start arriving in mailboxes in mid-March ahead of Census Day on April 1st.

The goal is that everybody is counted, once and only once and in the right place.

Officials stress that all responses are protected by Title 13 of the U.S. code and 1,000 employees are needed for a recruitment pool.

“It’s, of course, more cost-effective to hire locally our biggest thing, our biggest operation right now is to recruit. We are recruiting. We need census takers to help shape your community's future and be a census taker you could apply at 2020 census.gov/jobs,” said Ana Maria Lugo, Lead Partnership Specialist.

Lugo says participating in the Census is your biggest civil liberty and these responses will shape local government and available funds for the next 10 years.

$675 billion dollars will be distributed annually across the county based on Census data.
