Rollover crash blocks Cliff Drive in Santa Barbara Tuesday night
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - A driver and two passengers, one holding a dog, got out safely after a rollover crash Tuesday night on Cliff Drive near the entrance of Hendry's Beach.
Multiple Santa Barbara police and fire units were called to the scene along with an AMR ambulance about 8:30 p.m. The driver was checked for a neck injury.
Police investigators believe the Honda sedan was going up towards Hope Ranch at the time it hit the embankment and rolled over ending upside down in the street. Airbags deployed. There was an area of debris. Some fluids from the vehicle leaked out on to the roadway.
Many passersby stopped to help. The occupants remained at the scene and were questioned by responding officers.
Traffic was closed off in both directions, from Alan Road to Yankee Farm Road while the area was cleared.
The driver went through a field sobriety check and was suspected of being under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication at the time of the accident.
