Fire Teams Battling 15-Acre Fire Along Highway 101 Northwest of San Luis Obispo

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. (KEYT) – Fire crews are responding to a vehicle fire that has spread to about 15 acres of nearby vegetation along Highway 101 northwest of San Luis Obispo Wednesday.

According to the San Luis Obispo County Fire Department, fire teams on the ground and in the air are battling the flames in the area north of the intersection with Old Stage Coach Road and Highway 101 on the Cuesta Grade.

California Highway Patrol personnel were first called to the scene of a vehicle with flames underneath stopped on the right shoulder of northbound Highway 101 at 1:43 p.m. Wednesday and the driver was able to safely exit before flames engulfed the vehicle and spread up a nearby hillside detailed the statewide safety agency.

The current estimate for a full reopening of Highway 101 is five to eight hours added the California Highway Patrol.
