Fellow inmate accused of attacking Paul Flores in August identified by prison officials
COALINGA, Calif. – Pleasant Valley State Prison officials completed their investigation into the attack on Paul Flores in August of this year and identified his alleged attacker as fellow inmate, Jason Budrow, already serving consecutive life sentences without the eligibility for parole.
Flores, the man convicted in the killing of Cal Poly student Kristen Smart, was transported in serious condition after corrections officers saw him fall to the ground between the recreation yard and the medical clinic at Pleasant Valley State Prison (PVSP) around 10 a.m. on Aug. 23 detail the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR).
CDCR explain that Budrow was discovered nearby with a manufactured weapon, surrendered to corrections officers peacefully, and no other incarcerated people or staff were injured in this incident.
Flores returned to PVSP two days after the incident to continue his 25-year sentence for murder in the first degree explained CDCR in an emailed response to your News Channel's inquiries.
According to CDCR, Budrow is already serving a life sentence without eligibility for parole for first-degree murder as a second-striker and was further sentenced to an additional life sentence for murdering his cellmate Roger Kibbe, the infamous "I-5 Strangler", on Apr. 4, 2022.
