55-year-old Arroyo Grande man identified as pedestrian killed by Amtrak train in December

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif.– Grover Beach Police identified the pedestrian struck and killed by an Amtrak train in early December as 55-year-old Ronald Frank Gupton.

The Arroyo Grande resident was trying to retrieve an object when he stepped off the platform and was struck by an Amtrak train at the Grover Beach Train station, according to video footage obtained by the Grover Beach Police Department.

Law enforcement found the man dead upon arrival at the Dec. 5 incident. This was one of two fatal incidents involving an Amtrak train and pedestrian in December 2022.
