ATASCADERO, Calif. – Atascadero police have made an arrest following a shooting incident at the 9100 block of Las Lomas Avenue on Jan. 1.

Atascadero police officers were responding to reports from an underage woman around 3:28 a.m. that her ex-boyfriend was sending threatening messages when police heard gun shots and began an area search for two male juveniles reported running away from the shooting.

When two underage males were observed in the area, they attempted to flee on foot from approaching officers.

One of these juveniles eventually surrendered to police and after questioning, confirmed he had been the one sending threatening messages.

At the same time, a juvenile had been brought to Twin Cities Hospital for treatment of multiple gunshot wounds. They received medical care and were ultimately released from the hospital.

The juvenile that had suffered the gunshot wounds explained to police that they had been shot while sitting in a vehicle outside of the Las Lomas Avenue address after visiting the underage female caller.

Atascadero policer officers and detectives used a trained K9 unit to search the area and recovered a firearm.

The surrendering juvenile was transported and booked at San Luis Obispo County Juvenile Services for attempted homicide.

Atascadero Police Investigations Unit is now engaged in a follow up investigation of the events.
