Firefighters put out garage fire that left one pet deceased and one person injured
SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. – Atascadero Fire and Emergency Services said it responded to a structure fire early Saturday morning that killed a cat and left one person injured.
Around 12:24 a.m. Saturday, firefighters responded to 7775 Yesal Ave. to find a two-car garage on fire with potential of spreading into the main house, according to Atascadero Fire.
Firefighters said they found heavy smoke coming from the garage and all roof vents of the 1600 square foot house.
Atascadero Fire said all four occupants were evacuated, and crews quickly accessed the garage to keep the flames from entering the main house.
It took about 30 minutes for the firefighters to contain the flames, and officials said crews remained on the scene for about three hours for investigation and overhaul.
Officials said they found a deceased cat within the garage after the flames were put out.
Atascadero Fire said first responders treated one resident for burns to his hands, and he later went to the hospital for additional care.
The cause of fire still remains under investigation, according to Atascadero Fire.
