SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- The San Luis Obispo Police Department has a new chief. Chief Rick Scott was sworn in during a ceremony Thursday morning. 

On Thursday at around 6:45 a.m., San Luis Obispo Police Chief Rick Scott was sworn in at the San Luis Obispo Police Department.

Police Chief Scott joined in the efforts on Monday evening after an arrest warrant turned into a deadly officer-involved shooting.

The shooting Monday night took the life of Detective Luca Benedetti, a 12-year law enforcement veteran.

Chief Scott will also have another swearing-in ceremony on June 1 with the San Luis Obispo City Council.
