Firefighters assist injured hiker from popular SLO hiking trail

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - A hiker suffering from dehydration conditions was assisted down a popular hiking trail in San Luis Obispo Friday evening. 

At around 4:45 p.m., firefighters from Cal Fire and San Luis Obispo City Fire Department responded to Cerro San Luis' Madonna Mountain Loop.

The hiker had symptoms of possible dehydration and needed assistance from emergency responders.

Firefighters located the hiker and began the process of helping them down the trail. SLO City firefighters utilized an off-road vehicle to reach the hiker and take them down the mountain.

The hiker was taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center for treatment. Their condition is unclear at this time. 

The rescue took about 25 minutes, according to CAL FIRE.
