County Clerk certifies March 5 Primary Election results in Santa Barbara County

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. – On Tuesday, the County Clerk/Registrar for the County of Santa Barbara officially certified the results for the Mar. 5 primary election ahead of the November general election.

Election season kicked off when ballots were mailed across California in February, with results officially tallied to include ballots cast provisionally as well as those postmarked on election day which still count.

At the top of the race, the dueling party-specific primaries to determine this election cycle's candidates for President of the United States.

Below is a breakdown of the party affiliations of voters during this last election in Santa Barbara County.

Following the results of Super Tuesday, Donald Trump and Joseph Biden are set to once again face off in the general election in November of this year.

Trump's major competition in the primary, former Governor of South Carolina and the Trump Administration's Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, suspended her campaign the day after Super Tuesday.

President was not the only federal position on the primary ballot on Mar. 5.

California's Senate races, for both the full term as well as the partial term, as well as the primary for California's 24th Congressional District were voted on as well.

Unlike other jurisdictions in the United States, California has a top-two primary, or jungle primary, for federal positions where the top two vote recipients move on to the general election in November regardless of party affiliation.

Two state-specific races graced the County of Santa Barbara's ballot as well as Proposition 1: The Behavioral Health Infrastructure Bond Act of 2023.

California Senate District 21 Primary Results:

Incumbent State Senator Monique Limón (D) will face Elijah Mack (R) in the general election in November.

California State Assembly District 37 Primary Results:

Incumbent Assemblymember Gregg Hart will face Sari Domingues in November's general election.

Proposition 1 Results:

Primaries for County-specific Board of Supervisors positions for three of the five seats were also held on Mar. 5, 2024.
