Ridge Fire in Santa Barbara County fully contained; man arrested for suspected arson

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. — A man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of arson in connection to the "Ridge Fire," near Gaviota, now fully contained.

The vegetation fire began Saturday night on Sept. 29th at Hollister Ranch Road. Santa Barbara County Fire Department firefighters responded around 10:15 p.m.

According to SBCFD Captain and Spokesman Scott Safechuck, the fire was 100% contained Tuesday afternoon.

SBCFD says, investigators arrested an adult male, over the weekend, suspected of arson for intentionally igniting the "Ridge Fire." A full investigation is ongoing.

On Sunday, around 2:00 p.m., the Santa Barbara County Office of Emergency Management issued an evacuated warning for the Alegria Canyon and Hollister Ranch areas near the fire. By Monday, the evacuation warning was cancelled for the same areas.

"Take caution if returning home as emergency personnel continue working in the area," said SBC OEM via X. "Remain vigilant of changing conditions."
