15-year-old wounded in shooting at Oxnard mall
OXNARD, Calif. — A 15-year-old was wounded in a shooting at Oxnard's mall the Collection Friday night.
According to the Oxnard Police Department, officers responded to a gunshot victim at a parking structure at the 2700 block of Riverpark Boulevard of the shopping center.
Oxnard police say, the shooting reportedly happened behind the Cinemark Century Riverpark movie theater, between the theater and the parking structure.
OPD say the male juvenile appeared to have a gun shot wound to his lower leg.
The incident was reported at approximately 8:50 p.m.
According to local reports, a person allegedly behind the shooting tried to flee the scene, but was immediately apprehended by an off-duty Oxnard police officer.
Oxnard firefighters and ambulance personnel arrived to the scene moments later and transported the teenager to a local hospital.
At this time, OPD say the 15-year-old is in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
"Investigators from the Oxnard Police Department Violent Crimes Unit assumed responsibility for the investigation," said Detective Steve Eckman. "The investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time."
