SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) — Fossils, minerals and discoveries about our planet will take center stage at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History during National Earth Science Week.

The museum is planning a series of educational activities from October 11 through 17, inviting visitors of all ages to explore geology through interactive experiences.

The celebration begins Sunday with a tribute to California geologist Tom Dibblee. Participants can color maps of the Santa Barbara area and work on a geological puzzle.

Monday’s Mineral Day will feature collections from local clubs and an opportunity to meet earth science curator Jonathan Hoffman.

Additional activities will explore how scientists study Earth from space and what fossils reveal about prehistoric life.

The programs offer families an opportunity to meet researchers and learn more about the natural forces that have shaped the planet.

Scheduled afternoon activities run from 2 to 4 p.m. and are included with museum admission. Members attend free.
