PASO ROBLES, Calif. - A Salinas man was arrested Saturday evening after he led a California Highway Patrol officer on a high-speed pursuit in Paso Robles.

Just before 4 p.m. on Saturday, a Templeton Area CHP Unit was traveling westbound on State Route 46 near Geneseo Road when he noticed a silver 2003 Cadillac CTS driving at an extremely high speed in the opposite direction.

CHP said their unit made a u-turn and noticed that the other car was pulling away at over 100 miles per hour.

The CHP unit turned their lights and sirens on and began following the subject vehicle. CHP said the Cadillac put on the brakes and momentarily spun out of control, but continued driving away from the officer.

The CHP unit then broadcast a failure to yield and a Sergeant joined the pursuit.

The unit reported the Cadillac driver weaved in and out of traffic, passing on the right shoulder at times outside the lanes.

While driving at a high speed, the Cadillac tried to make a left turn onto a US 101 Southbound onramp, but it lost control and ended up spinning out before crossing back onto SR 46.

CHP said the car finally stopped in the first lane of SR 46. The driver, later identified as 23-year-old Alejandro Ariaslopez, exited the vehicle and fled on foot toward the McDonald's off Black Oak Drive in Paso Robles.

CHP called Paso Robles police for help locating the subject. With the help from the Paso Robles Police Department and a CHP Air Unit, officers located the Ariaslopez around 4:20 p.m. near the Adelaide Inn and took him into custody without further incident.

CHP said two women were found in the abandoned Cadillac. A Protective Order was put in place for one of the women.

CHP said Ariaslopez was unlicensed and had two outstanding warrants from Monterey County.
