SIMI VALLEY, Calif. - The Simi Valley Police Department received a 911 call Saturday evening about a domestic violence incident in progress on the 4900 block of Alta Street.

Police said the caller was a 66-year-old woman named Susan Hahn who said she was assaulted by her son, who she lived with, 38-year-old Jason Hahn.

Susan informed police she was hiding in the backyard of their home and that Jason was inside the house, armed with a rifle and had threatened to kill her.

Susan told the Simi Valley dispatch that she could not leave the property because the backdoor access gate was locked.

Upon arriving, officers determined that Susan was hiding on the east side of the residence between the trash cans and access gate, so they set up a rescue team, entered the backyard through the access gate and successfully rescued her.

After being rescued, Susan told the officers she had been arguing with her son about personal issues when he became violent and choked and threatened her. Susan said that Jason armed himself with the rifle after he choked her.

At this time, the SVPD Special Weapons and Tactics Team and Crisis Negotiation Team were activated and responded to the residence.

As the situation progressed, Jason decided to voluntarily exit the residence unarmed. He was taken into custody without incident. The investigating officer also seized 2 rifles and 1 handgun as evidence.

Jason was arrested for attempted murder, elder abuse and criminal threats. He was booked at the Ventura County Main Jail.

Susan was assessed by paramedics on the scene and released.
