One arrested following stabbing in Santa Maria

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - One person was arrested and another was hospitalized following a stabbing in Santa Maria Monday afternoon.

Santa Maria police, along with fire personnel and ambulance, responded to the 500 block of S. McClelland Street at around 2:30 p.m.

Police arrived on scene and found a 38-year-old man suffering from apparent stab wounds. He was transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police say the incident started following an altercation between the victim and a 20-year-old man. The 20-year-old was detained by police, but later released.

The Santa Maria Police Department is continuing to investigate.
