Sunday shooting marks first homicide of the year for the City of Oxnard
OXNARD, Calif. - A man is dead after a shooting took place in Oxnard Sunday night.
Oxnard police are looking for the person who shot and killed a 22-year-old Oxnard man late Sunday.
“Last night around 9:40 p.m., the department received phone calls of shots fired in the area of Marquita and Second Street in the City of Oxnard,” said Scott Aaron of the Oxnard Police Department. “Officers responded and when they arrived on scene they located a male subject who suffered from gunshot wounds.”
So far, a suspect has not been located.
“We do not know who was there, we are still looking for suspects involved in this incident,” said Aaron. “We are getting cooperation from the public, but we haven’t found that one lead that has broken this case open and led us to who is behind this.”
Sunday’s shooting took place in La Colonia, but police said it was too soon to tell if it was gang related. The shooting marks the first homicide of the year for the City of Oxnard, and the second in Ventura County this week after a man was taken into custody after police say he shot and killed another man at a U-haul storage facility in Moorpark on Friday.
The Oxnard Police Department is asking for the public's help. Anyone with information is asked to come forward and the city is offering a $10,000 reward if the information leads to an arrest.
