Gang member arrested after pursuit in Oxnard

An Oxnard gang member was arrested after he was found in possession of an unregistered loaded firearm.

OXNARD, Calif. - A documented gang member is in custody after police say he was found with a loaded, unregistered firearm.

On Sunday, police responded to the 3100 block of Merced Place for a report of gang activity.

Police arrived on scene and attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a vehicle. During the stop, one man, identified as 22-year-old Ariel Medina Martinez of Oxnard, fled from officers on foot.

After a short pursuit, Martinez was apprehended and placed under arrest. Police say Martinez, who is a documented gang member, he was in possession of a loaded, unregistered firearm.

Martinez was booked into jail and faces multiple charges for firearm violations. In addition to the gun charges, Martinez faces additional violations for using force to resist an officer after an officer suffered minor injuries during the arrest.
