Permanent disabled person parking placards must be renewed state-wide by June 30
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – A new state law has changed the renewal process for people with permanent disabled person parking placards. Placards expire on Jun. 30 of this year and will not be automatically renewed as they were in the past.
Placard holders that have had their placards for six or more years will be required to provide a signature to renew this year, but there is no charge or fee to renew and no doctor's note is required.
The process can be completed entirely online at dmv.ca.gov/DPP.
Placards can also be renewed by signing and returning the renewal notice to the DMV through the mail. Postage on those mailed renewals is required.
To renew your placard you will need the following:
- Your placard number or renewal identification number (RIN)
- Pay a visit to DMV.ca.gov/dpp
- E-sign your renewal
“The DMV has made renewing as easy and accessible as possible through its new, completely online process,” said DMV Director Steve Gordon. “The time is now for customers to complete their renewal and have their new parking placard mailed to them before the deadline."
Placard holders who do not make the Jun. 30 renewal deadline will not have a valid placard to use for parking.
