Alisal Fire burn scar faces first major rainfall since the blaze

GAVIOTA, Calif. — On Oct.11, a fire started near the Alisal Reservoir. High winds pushed it over the hills towards the ocean. Highway 101 was closed for about three days while firefighters tried to extinguish the flames.

After a week of fighting, the hills around Gaviota, Santa Ynez and Buellton were covered in ash and burnt land. Two months later rain is in the forecast for the region. On Thursday, light showers fell on the burn scars. And next week more rain is in the forecast.

Thursday afternoon the National Weather Service will talk about the upcoming storm. And people in the Alisal burn scars area will see what impact this first major storm will have on the area.
