COVID-19: Saint Joseph High School shuts down for two weeks as part of preemptive safety precaution
ORCUTT, Calif. - This week administrators announced on social media that they are closing the school for the time being as an extra safety precaution due to the pandemic.
Saint Joseph High School just reopened its doors in October.
Right now principal Erinn Dougherty says one person tested positive for COVID-19.
"We had a student who was exposed to COVID-19 and then that student tested positive," said Dougherty.
Even though the Catholic high school just reopened two weeks ago, administrators decided to shut it down.
"In an over abundance of precaution we decided that the safest course of action would be to close the school for two weeks," said Dougherty.
For the time being, students are back to distance learning.
In the short time the school was open, administrators say everyone was diligent in following health protocols.
Even though administrators had confirmed one COVID-19 case they want to emphasize that currently there is no outbreak at the school.
"Not an outbreak at this point what it is is one case and we’d like to keep it at one confirmed case and we want to ensure that we don’t have students exposed on our campus," said Dougherty.
Administrators hope to see students come back to campus two weeks from now.
"We miss them every day and we know that they missed being all together with us here and I just hope we can get them back on the campus as soon as everybody safe," said parent Kellie Brackett.
