City of Santa Maria Public Library continues on plan to reopen safely

SANTA MARIA, Calif. – The City of Santa Maria is continuing efforts to safely reopen the Public Library.

The library is still closed, but that may change soon.

“We have reopening plans that we are reevaluating right now,” said Public Information Manager for the City of Santa Maria Mark van de Kamp.

At this time, there is no set date. However, the city is optimistic to reopen in the next few weeks, in a safe manner.

“The library has turned in a plan, and safety, safety, safety is the priority,” said van de Kamp.

The safety plan includes having strict sanitation, physical distance procedures, and a 20 minute time limit per visitor.

Santa Maria resident Ray Patton, who was on his way to pick up a grab and go bag, said he is ready for the library to open. “Well, I think it'll be a good idea, everybody is getting tired of staying home and needs something to do. I am sick of TV, I am sick of youtube.”

For now, the library is continuing to serve readers with sidewalk pickup service, a movie talk discussion group and more.

For families needing help with distance learning, e-books and other learning resources are available on the homework help webpage.
