Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office releases identity of Orcutt fatal plane crash victim

A plane went down at Ralph Dunlap Elementary School in Orcutt Wednesday.

ORCUTT, Calif. - The Santa Barbara County Sheriff - Coroner's Office confirmed and released the identity of the pilot who was killed when his plane crashed at Ralph Dunlap Elementary School in Orcutt on Wednesday.

The pilot was identified as 38-year-old Tigran Garabedyan from Burbank, Calif.

Garabedyan was the only person involved in the crash.

Fortunately, Dunlap Elementary School was closed at the time of the crash due to the coronavirus.

Garabedyan's family visited the crash site and left roses and candles there in his honor.

The Sheriff's Office said they were able to confirm Garabedyan's identity using an ANDE Rapid DNA Instrument that is currently on loan to the Coroner's Bureau.

The crash will continue to be investigated by the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board.
